Housedean Farm Near Lewes, East Sussex
Housedean farm is set in the South Downs just outside the East Sussex county town of Lewes. With direct access to the South Downs Way which passes your nose you won't go short of things to see...
Nick who owns Housedean Farm is a man who knows his camping - from providing a great site for tents and campervans he also hires out Bell Tents and Shepherd Huts no less.
The campsite is situated close to the A23 which links Brighton and Lewes. It needs close attention upon approaching as you are turning off a busy road; not tricky but best to not be doing any emergency stops !
What's great (in my sons eyes especially) is the open air showers; it's the one place I'm guaranteed to have a clean child (despite breaking camping rules!). The views are amazing and with the ability to now hire bikes from onsite you've no excuse to not at least wander along some of the 80-odd miles of the South Downs Way. For those that like a bit of history this pass or Way has been used since Neolithic times as it follows the ridge of the chalky hills from Winchester down to Eastbourne. Click here for more specific info on routes etc.
Another benefit of this location (if stunning scenery were not enough) is the ability to catch one of the regular buses (every 15 minutes) into Brighton or Lewes. Saves parking in the city of Brighton (expensive and chaotic at times) and the narrow streets of Lewes are better deigned for legs than wheels .
On top of all this you can have open fires (in specified fire pits) so be sure to bring marshmallows, hone up on your repertoire of campfire songs or even bring your guitar !
